Nikon Releases Firmware Ver. 2.20 for Nikon Z 7 and  Z 6 with support for CFexpress and introduces service for RAW video output function

Even more powerful Nikon Z 7 and Z 6 full-frame mirrorless cameras

New Delhi: 17th Dec, 2019 – Upgrading the Nikon Z 7 and Z 6 further, Firmware Version 2.20 has been announced today by Nikon India Pvt. Ltd, a 100% subsidiary of Nikon Corporation, Tokyo. This firmware update offers several improvements that make these cameras even more powerful. In addition, Nikon initiates the service to enable RAW video output function.

Updating the Z 7 and Z 6 firmware to Ver. 2.20 enables the use1 of CFexpress2 cards. CFexpress cards support even faster data transfer than XQD cards for a smoother and more efficient photographic workflow.

Users of the Z 7 or Z 6 who have downloaded and installed Firmware Ver. 2.20 or later can also bring in their camera to a Nikon-authorized service centre to have the RAW video output capability activated. Activating this capability enables recording of RAW video, which has greater tolerance to colour grading than other video formats, to an external recorder via a HDMI connector.

Firmware ver. 2.20 is now available at the Nikon Download Center:

The complimentary consumer offer for firmware upgrade worth INR. 15,000/ - is for limited period only. Consumers can avail benefits of this offer till Feb ’20.

Nikon will continue to flexibly respond to changing user needs and offer next-generation imaging experiences that stimulate users' creativity with periodic firmware updates for its Z series mirrorless cameras.

Added functions with Firmware Ver. 2.20

Support for CFexpress memory cards, with a new standard
This firmware update enables the usage of CFexpress, a new standard for memory cards that supports even faster data transfer than XQD cards, without modifying the camera's memory card slot. The post-shooting/-recording workflow would be hastened with shorter transfer times.

Enabled RAW video output function

Support for 4K UHD or Full-HD RAW video output
12-bit 4K UHD or Full-HD RAW video can be recorded3 to an external recorder4 connected to a Z 7 or Z 6 camera via a HDMI connector. As RAW video is not subjected to in-camera processing, all information that is output from the image sensor is preserved. This abundance of information can later be used in post-production. Users of the Z 7 or Z 6 who have downloaded and installed firmware Ver. 2.20 or later can take or send their camera to a Nikon-authorized service centre to have RAW video output capability activated5.

Nikon RAW video output is currently supported by the Atomos Ninja V. Download for the latest version of the Ninja V firmware is available here:
